The 20 Pieces I Wear Over and Over Again

People ask me all the time if I really wear the clothes I recommend.

The answer is absolutely.

In fact, if you followed me around for a month, you'd probably notice I'm wearing the same pieces over and over again, just in different combinations. That's the whole point of a capsule wardrobe. It isn't about constantly buying something new. It's about buying pieces you genuinely love and then getting your money's worth out of them.

These are the items I reach for again and again.

1. A Great Pair of Black Pants

If I could only keep one bottom in my closet, it would probably be black pants. I have a few different styles, including wide leg trousers and ponte pants, because they work for almost everything I do. I can wear them to teach, meet clients, travel, or go out to dinner.

2. Dark Wash Jeans

A great pair of dark jeans always looks polished. They're comfortable enough for everyday life but still look put together when paired with a nice top and accessories.

3. White Jeans

Especially in the spring and summer, I wear white jeans constantly. They instantly make an outfit feel fresh.

4. Black V Neck T Shirts

If you've followed me for very long, you already know this one.

I love a black V neck T shirt.

It's probably the hardest-working piece in my closet because it works with jeans, black pants, shorts, skirts, jackets, and just about every accessory I own.

5. White T Shirts

A good white T shirt is another piece that goes with everything. Finding one that isn't too thin and fits well is worth the effort.

6. A Denim Jacket

I don't think I'll ever stop wearing denim jackets.

They're classic, comfortable, and instantly finish an outfit without making it feel too dressy.

7. A Black Moto Jacket

When I want a little more structure, I grab my black moto jacket. It makes a simple outfit look intentional with almost no effort.

8. Silk Blouses

I've been slowly replacing some of my polyester blouses with silk, and I'm so glad I did. They travel beautifully, they're naturally breathable, and they make even a simple pair of black pants feel elevated.

9. A White Button Down Shirt

Sometimes I wear it open over a tank. Sometimes tucked into jeans. Sometimes tied at the waist with a dress. It's one of those pieces that never goes out of style.

10. A Comfortable Black Dress

Every woman needs one dress she can wear almost anywhere. Dinner, church, travel, conferences, or a last-minute event. Mine has saved me more times than I can count.

11. Linen Dresses

I've become a big fan of simple linen dresses, especially during our hot Houston summers. They're comfortable, easy to pack, and you still look put together.

12. White Sneakers

If I'm traveling, walking all day, or just running errands, I'm usually wearing white sneakers. They're one of the most versatile shoes I own.

13. Neutral Sandals

A comfortable pair of sandals goes with nearly every summer outfit I own.

14. Comfortable Flats

Some days call for something a little dressier than sneakers but just as comfortable. A classic flat fills that gap perfectly.

15. My Pom Pom London Bags

These have become my everyday handbags. I love that I can swap out the guitar straps and pom poms to completely change the look without buying another purse.

16. A Wide Black Belt

Adding a belt is one of the quickest ways to make an outfit look more finished.

17. Simple Gold Jewelry

I don't change my jewelry much. I tend to wear the same simple gold pieces because they work with everything.

18. A Great Pair of Sunglasses

They're practical, of course, but they also make even a basic outfit feel polished.

19. A Lightweight Sweater

Whether I'm flying, sitting in a restaurant, or walking into a freezing conference room, I almost always have a lightweight sweater with me.

20. A Great Crossbody Bag

When I'm traveling or spending the day out, I almost always carry a crossbody bag. I like having my hands free, and they're comfortable enough to wear all day.

Looking at this list, you might notice something.

There isn't anything particularly trendy.

That's intentional.

I've learned that trends come and go, but great basics never let me down. Once I have those basics in place, I can add a fun scarf, a colorful handbag strap, a statement necklace, or a cute seasonal top and suddenly it feels like a completely different outfit.

That's why I don't spend my money chasing every trend that comes along. I'd rather invest in pieces I'll still be wearing five years from now.

If you're building your own capsule wardrobe, I'd encourage you to start with the basics. Once those are in place, everything else becomes easier.

I've linked the Everyday Basics I personally recommend and wear most often. If you're looking for a place to start, these are the pieces I'd buy first because they're the ones I reach for over and over again.
